More jump scares than I could bear! (Almost)
The Invitation is 2022 horror movie it stars Natalie Emmanuel, Thomas Doherty, Stephanie Corneliusseum, Hugh Skinner, Sean Pertwee and Alana Boden.
This movie tells the story of Evie (Natalie Emmanuel) a native loner of New York City who’s stricken about the loss of her parents; believing she has no other relatives left until she goes on a website to discover her family lineage. She comes across a distant cousin who invites her to a wedding ceremony in London, while meeting the mysterious owner of the family mansion, Walter Davill (Thomas Doherty).
But everything goes downhill when Evie discovers an eerie supernatural truth about her family which puts her in horrific danger. The story of this movie got straight to the point it was slowly paced and didn’t hesitate to show the 1st horrific scene in the opening sequence in order to let the audience know what kind of movie this is.
I like how this movie was shot visually which really gave it an eerie and creepy feel. The characters in this movie were surprisingly different. I love the lead character, Evie, she was very interesting and had a lot of qualities of a loner.
When she looked up more on her family history, which is what really got me interested, it showed this character will have a lot on interesting sequences later on. Now the three head families were also my favorite horror villains.
We saw from the trailers that they’re vampires and these types of vamps were a lot different than the usual one’s we’ve seen in past movies and TV shows. They were aristocratic and creepy at the same time.
The head vampire, Walter Daville, was very nightmarish as well as manipulative. He also has an interesting backstory due to him practically starting the cultural myths of vampirism throughout. The centuries which were one of my favorite aspects about this character. This movie was a mixture of Get out, Dracula Untold and Underworld (without The Lycans).
But I had a really great time watching this, due to the fact that we haven’t really had a new Vamp movie in a while other than Morbius which is a Marvel property. But it was a lot better to see something different for a change and this movie did its job with that.
Also the 3rd act was pretty intense and what Evie does in this act made me wish this movie would get a sequel already! Especially with all the terrifying jump scares, not to mention it was dope seeing another black lead in this movie.
Overall, the movie raises some form of awareness to people to be careful of who you meet online, and not meet someone who you barely even know. Whether it’s a potential dating partner, or a distant relative at the end of the day you still don’t know that individual and what their intentions are for you.
So, if you’re looking for a classical horror feature for some fun definitely watch The Invitation.
