A Movie We All Need to See
Article by Brandon the Hero Guy
It goes deep…
Creed 3 is the 3rd boxing installment of the Creed Trilogy its written by Ryan Coogler and directed by Michael B Jordan and it stars him Johnathan Majors, Tessa Thompson, Mila Kent Davis, Florian Munteanu, Wood Harris, Phylicia Rashad and Selena Leyva.
This movie takes place couple years after Creed 2 Adonis Creed (Michael B Jordan) is now retired from pro boxing and is living a luxurious calm life with his wife Bianca (Tessa Thompson) and Amara Creed (Mila Kent Davis), and also looking after his mother Mary Ann Creed (Phylicia Rashad).
Things seem to go well until Adonis runs into an old childhood friend Damian (Johnathan Majors) who’s released from prison after a 10-year sentence and threatens to take Adonis’s boxing title to be the next heavy weight champion of the world.
This causes Adonis to step out of retirement and face his old friend turned enemy while also fighting is inner struggles that connects to a dark past, he had with Damian. First off, the story for this movie was incredibly well done and very well-placed.
We get to know more about Adonis during his retirement. It also sets the tone starting pretty slowly, and the acting in this movie is phenomenal everyone did an incredible job, especially Johnathan Majors as Damian.
Damian was cold blooded and ruthless as this character. I liked the interactions between him and Adonis and you get to really learn the backstory between the two former friends and what caused them to be at odds.
What’s crazy about this is that incidents like this actually happen in reality; how one individual makes it out while the other is fueled with jealousy and hatred for the person who reaches success. Usually, it never has a happy ending.
And we see some of that in this movie. This is definitely the year for Johnathan Majors and also Michael B Jordan as Adonis were very good. You get to see him struggle throughout this movie mostly in the 2nd and 3rd act; trying to bottle up his guilt about the past and running from his unforgiving history as a teen.
This not only affects him, but those around him particularly his wife Bianca (Tessa Thompson); who also does an incredible job. We get to see them struggle with their relationship, showing that marriage has its ups and downs.
But what really hit home for me was when she still held it down with him despite him not opening up to her with certain situations at the moment. And that was a huge emotional hit. This definitely was something you don’t see every day in movies.
Also, I liked the relationship between Adonis and his daughter Amara it reminded me of Logan and Laura Kinney (X23) there’s a scene (won’t spoil) with Amara that caught everyone by surprise; it’s probably one of my favorite comedic moments of the movie, and it’s definitely something Laura Kinney would do in a situation like this. Amara pulled it off perfectly It was hilariously well done.
Another part I liked about this movie is Amara being deaf, and then using sign language is a huge asset. This movie shows representation to individuals that use sign language to communicate, and it’s so epic to see, while also showing they aren’t to be trifled with. Especially if they know self-defense.
And the boxing sequences were amazingly well done! You can tell Michael B Jordan based the fighting styles on different anime he’s watched, such as Hajime no Ippo, Dragon Ball Z, and my personal Favorite Naruto.
Even in the boxing scene in 1st act, he had a sequence that took inspiration from Neji Hyuuga; a character from The Naruto anime that can see and tag the pressure points of his opponent’s body by using his blood line trait.
Even the story of Adonis and Damian as kids, showing their confrontation in the 3rd act, was a huge callback to Kakashi and Obito’s story in The Naruto Shippuden anime. That was such an exciting take on these two characters in this movie.
Creed 3 was definitely an amazing experience and a great movie to see again for a second viewing. It leaves a huge message about coming to terms with your mistakes, forgiving yourself.
It deeply explores the impacts of trying to push people away, and the effects of what bitterness and jealousy could do to an individual. But also demonstrates the power of burying the hatchet of hate, which you rarely see these days.
And if you’re a parent it’ll definitely hit home with you, and it shows how a father is very impactful in their child’s life, and how children look up to their fathers; often wanting to follow in their footsteps.
This is a movie a lot of people need to see, and it is understandable why Sylvester Stallone wasn’t in this one. When you think about it, Creed 3 is mostly about Adonis’s story while, at the same time separating it from The Rocky and Apollo legacy while keeping its roots in tact (no easy task). So, without further ado I give Creed 3 a 10/10!
