Anime Review: Bleach Movies–Fade to Black

Fade to Black

Anime Reviews with the Hero Guy

Article by Brandon the Hero Guy

Bleach Fade to Black is a 2008 movie based off the popular Manga and Anime created by Tite Kubo. This movie was written by Nakasuko Takahashi and directed by Noriyuke Abe. It tells the story surrounding a Rukia Kouichki, a master Soul Reaper who has a mysterious and haunting past. It follows the story of two ghastly siblings that threaten the balance of the Soul Society and the Soul Reapers.

This causes the near destruction of their race by wiping out their memories. When Ichigo Kurosaki figures this out, he goes to the Soul Society to stop this threat along with Koh and Renji Abarai though they come across many powerful threats in order to save her.

First, I have to say the story was very well done and the pacing was perfect. Especially with the opening scene that had a lot of intensity right off the bat.It lets the audience know what tone and this movie has from the jump and it really makes the pacing flow.

The voice acting was top-notched and the entire voice cast did incredibly! The characters were all outstanding. My favorite characters that played a big part in Rukia’s arch were the protagonist Ichigo, Renji, Koh, Captain Urahara and Byakuya Kuchki.

Those characters definitely had a huge impact with the story. Also, the character interactions were really good as well as the action sequences there’s and action scene between Ichigo and Renji which blew me away and it ties back into their main fight back in the 2nd season of Bleach which was a very exciting moment.

The villains in this movie were incredibly interesting. One of the main things I like about Anime villains is that you can understand why they do what they do, which makes them so relatable. The villains in this movie play very big part in Rukia’s arch and there’s a scene that gets incredibly dark and gritty which will catch you off guard.

It makes you question who’s the real villain, them or the Soul Society (a common theme in Bleach) especially after reading more interesting history about the Soul Reapers. Also, another character that really stood out in all this was Rukia’s Brother Byakuya. He had an interesting arch due to them being siblings and it also ties into Byakuya’s past as well.

This movie has a lot of emotional moments and incredible voice performances as well has leaving a very important message. You will definitely enjoy this movie if you’re a hardcore Bleach fan without further ado I give Fade to Black 10/10!
