Anime Review: Bleach Movies

The Diamond Dust Rebellion Review

Anime Reviews with the Hero Guy

Article by Brandon the Hero Guy

Based off the Manga by Tite Kubo, Bleach Diamond Dust Rebellion is the sequel to Memories of Nobody and ties in to the Arrancar arch of the Bleach anime. It’s written by Michiko Yokote and directed by Noriyuke Abe. This movie tells the story of the Soul Reaper captain Toshiro Hytsuguya and his squad encountering a mysterious assailant named Kusaka who has the same power as Toshiro. The two have a connected past which becomes a huge threat to the Soul Society. After a mysterious artifact is stolen, Toshiro is framed for the incident making him a criminal of the Soul Society.

Ichigo Kurosaki along with Rukia Kuchki and Rangiku try to clear Toshiro’s name and apprehend Kusaka before the Soul Society falls into complete chaos. First off, the story for this movie was very well-written and the pacing was on point; It did not drag at all especially in the 1st two acts and you get to know so much more about the darker side of the Soul Society, and more on Toshiro’ past (including how he got his Zanpakto).

When you watch this movie, you’ll see that Ichigo is not the true main character. The film is focused more on Toshiro. So, it’s more of a film focused on him and the arch he has is so relatable to the troubling struggles we have every now and then, or a dark past that we dealt with along the way. The antagonist in this film Kusaka is a really good villain he gave off an anime style winter soldier vibe, but without any good in him just pure vengeance. His connection to Toshiro was a huge plot twist in the 2nd act.

The characters and voice acting were top notch as always and the animation was beautifully well made; especially the fight sequences which were very well done. The film leaves an important message about not trying to fight a battle on your own and not shutting people out who care for you, especially when they’ve been in your corner since day 1. This is definitely an anime film to watch especially after the announcement of the upcoming Bleach Thousand Year Blood Arch, without further ado I give Diamond Dust Rebellion 10/10!
