Review: DC’s Young Justice

The HBO animated series from DC is on the Hero Guy’s Radar

Rocket and the History behind her son’s name in Young Justice Phantoms

This episode of Young Justice is very brave to have the characters go through real life struggles. In Raquel’s episode it’s revealed that her son, Amistad, has autism and this episode showed that reality. He’s an extremely gifted child who’ll most likely join the team when he comes of age.

For those who don’t know, Amistad is named after the slave ship which was known for carrying enslaved Africans that endured tragedies over the Middle Passage during the 1800’s. There was a revolt lead by one of the captives named Cinque, a West African of the Mende Tribe who fought tooth and nail against the slave traders that committed horrors and atrocious acts on that ship. Any other person would’ve lost it.

Some fans felt uncomfortable about this but what they don’t know is that this was referenced in the comics by Rocket. So, for her to give him that name is pretty much an honor to Cinque and those who lost their lives on the Amistad fighting for their freedom. There’s a movie based off the events of what happened on that ship. Djimon Hounsou plays the role of Cinque tells the story of what happened hundreds of years ago, but may have to warn you some scenes from the film are very hard to watch. It’s based off events that happened during the Atlantic Slave trade.

So, I’m really glad that this show was brave enough to do this and why characters from Milestone need recognition! They’re original black characters and not tokenized leftover versions of already established one’s This show deserves to continue one especially after this really good episode.
