No Spoiler Review: Avatar the Way of Water

The Long Awaited Sequel

Article by Brandon the Hero Guy

Beautiful CGI

Avatar Way of Water is the sequel to 2009 Avatar. It’s a highly anticipated film which has been in development for the past few years. Written and directed by James Cameron, it stars Sam Warrington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh, Cliff Curtis, Jack Champion, Poland Chapman, Trinity Bliss, Michelle Rodriguez, Joel David Moore, Eddie Falco, Britain Dalton, Jamie Flatters, Filip Geljo, Giovanni Ribisi and Bailey Bass.

This sequel takes place years after the previous Avatar Jake Sully (Sam Warrington) and Nyteri (Zoe Saldona) are now leaders of the Omitikaya Clan, and have a family of their own.

They’ve been protecting the clan from outside invading forces, but things get riskier when Quartich (Stephen Long) and his Squadron of Avatar enhanced soldiers show up.

They attempt to hunt down The Sully Clan by any means including wiping out the Omitikaya people. In order to prevent this, the Sully Family banished themselves from the clan and go into hiding with a different race of Navi called the Matakayina Clan.

This clan naturally evolved to adapt to Aquatic environments. Things go well but that all changes when Quartich hunts them down across the Oceans of Pandora and this causes the Sully family and Makayina to fight back and protect their tribes.

The story was so well written, and the pacing was on point. It really let the film breathe and flourish. Especially in the 1st act which gets the audience tuned-in instantly.

Time to learn the way…

But what really catches the audience’s attention in this film was the VFX, which were incredible. I see why Cameron held this movie back for the past couple of years.

The CGI was beautifully well made; the VFX team took their time with the new technology to have the films effects to complete perfection.

And it was well worth the wait, because right from the beginning of the film the movie effects pull you in, and make you feel like you’re in the world of Pandora. The creatures in this film looked amazing.

Most of them are based off modern Aquatic animals like dolphins and whales, even sharks and extinct animals too. The way they connected to the Navi was beautifully well done.

The entire cast did amazingly in their roles. The action sequences with the Navi were an intense thrill ride; not to mention this movie had some brutal fight scenes.

The Sully family and the Matakayina Clan stole the show I liked how this clan was based off Polynesian tribes and their culture with Warrior based attributes. This film also teases that we’ll see different kinds of Navi races in future sequels.

I liked the character growth between the Sully Family and Matakayina. At first the majority of them started off rocky, but over majority of the film they slowly grew to respect one another and learn from each other; realizing they have a common enemy.

This movie had so much emotional heart and creativity as well as an original concept which most films these days lack. Especially with the character arcs, because this film has a character named Spider who’ll have a very interesting development in future sequels (won’t spoil).

Avatar Way of Water is definitely a film to see again as well as a good movie for the holiday season. It gives an important message about how to protect nature, specifically the ocean. Which is surprisingly educational and it also gives a message on the importance of Family and coming together during difficult times I really enjoyed this film and it was definitely worth the wait.
