No Spoiler Review: Top Gun Maverick

No spoilers, but we still going in!

Article by Brandon the Hero Guy

A Sequel 36 Years in the Making

Top Gun Maverick is The Sequel to the classic 1986 feature, Top Gun. It stars Tom Cruise, Val Kimer, Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, Monica Barbardo, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm, Jean Louis Kelly, Lewis Pullmin, Lyliana Wray, Manny Jacinto, Danny Ramirez, Jay Ellis, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell and Jake Piking.

The movie takes place years after the original Top Gun, and tells the story of the legendary fighter pilot Lt. Pete / Maverick (Tom Cruise). He’s assigned to train a group of other fighter pilots on an air combat mission along with Bradley Bradshaw Rooster (Miles Teller).

Throughout the movie Maverick and these young pilots go through rigorous training together, and have their own struggles. They struggle with how to work together as a team and live up to the legacy of the pilots before them.

Keep in mind I’ve never seen the original Top Gun, but I’ve watched clips of it. Let me tell you the sequel pays so much honor and respect to its predecessor. Especially with how the story was handled which was one of the best aspects about this movie.

The pacing takes it’s time to let the audience seep it in. The story really grips you and shows the true bond of veterans in arms; notably through the Air Force, and it doesn’t try to force down a message to you like most movies do today.

Maverick Returns to the Skies

As for the characters they were incredibly well done the entire cast did a great job. Maverick (Tom Cruise) once again crushes it. He becomes a true mentor to these young pilots, and is seen as a father figure to them. Especially to Bradley Bradshaw/Rooster (Miles Teller) who was one of my favorite characters in this movie.

Their interactions were incredibly well done and later on in the movie you learn the real reason why Rooster resents Maverick due to a tragedy in the last film. We also get to see Maverick interact with the Legacy Characters which made a huge nostalgic hit for the fans of the original movie.

The flight scenes with the jets were incredibly well done, and visually amazing. It felt as if you were the one piloting the jets, and it also had some huge heart stopping moments that will have you really rooting for these characters to make it out.

Top Gun Maverick is definitely a movie to see, and it really shows the realism and risk that Air Force veterans take to defend everything they stand for.
